Arlene D Gula

Arlene D. Gula, age 82 of Remus died peacefully Saturday, January 24, 2015 with her family by her side in Big Rapids. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, January 29, 2015, at 11:00 AM at St. Michael Catholic Church in Remus, with Father Aaron Ferris as celebrant. Visitation will also be held at the church on Wednesday, January 28th, from 5:00 to 9:00 PM with Rosary at 8:00 PM. The family will greet friends again from 10:00 AM until the time of service on Thursday. Arlene was born November 3, 1932 in Detroit, the daughter of Arthur and Gertrude (Baumgartner) Gourley. Arlene and Louis began their marriage with a lengthy cross-country motorcycle trip. The two continued a lifetime of travel throughout the States and abroad, frequenting their favorite places. Arlene was a woman proud of her children and grandchildren, telling anyone and everyone how wonderful they were. She was a classy lady who never went anywhere without her hair just so, armed with her trusty lipstick. Arlene was the life of any gathering who especially loved weddings and making others laugh. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Louis; sons, Gerald McKay, John (Toni) McKay, James (Mary) McKay; daughters, Dorothy (Steven) Simon, Sharon Gearhart, Kristina (Robert) Beers; grandchildren, Angela, Steven Jr., Adam, Sarah, Carrie, Tom, Ben, Jerika, Allyson, Jamie, Christopher, Wayne, Andrew, Alicia, Elizabeth, Greg, Joseph, Robert III, William, Shawn, Jacob, Basil, and Josef; great-grandchildren, Emily, Reanna, Tyler, Joshua, Ava, Isabella, Anna, Gabriella, Jeremiah, Zoe, Kamryn, Carter, Emma, and Jaxon; niece, Suzanne Thomas and nephew, Dennis (Colleen) Thomas. Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Jeffery; two sisters, Dorothy and Geraldine; one brother, Jerome and husband, Gerald McKay. Donations in her memory may be directed to The Helen Devos Children’s Hospital, St. Jude’s Hospital or JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation). Envelopes will be available at the church.
