Dorothy Marie Gannon "Dottie" Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Age 87, passed away Saturday, November 30th at her home in Mecosta. Dorothy was born January 25, 1926 to Samuel and Virginia LaMacchia (Coscarelli) in Lansing, MI. She was the salutatorian of her graduating class at Resurrection High School in Lansing. Dorothy married William R. Gannon in 1946 and together they had five wonderful children. Dorothy was a chartered and life-long member of the Mecosta Literary Guild and volunteered often at the Morton Township Public Library. She worked for Old Kent Bank for many years and then owned and operated East Bay Mart and Marina in Chippewa Lake until 1981 when she retired to the Mecosta residence. She was very active at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Remus as a Lay Minister and CCD instructor. She loved to line dance, write poetry, do crossword puzzles, and live life to the fullest. She was dedicated to her family and the Lord and loved all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren dearly. They never failed to brighten her day or make her laugh. Left to cherish her memory are children, William S. Gannon (Grayling), Marianne (Rodger) McEvoy of Traverse City, Patrick Gannon (Mecosta), Susan (William) Jaques of Mattawan, and Maureen (Thomas) Kercher of Goshen, IN; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and sister, Mary Jane Teszlewicz (Lansing). Dorothy was preceeded in death by her husband, William in 1982, her sister Theresa Coscarelli (Lansing), and brother Paul LaMacchia (Mecosta). A funeral mass will be held in Dorothy’s honor Monday, December 2, 2013, at St. Michael’s Catholic church in Remus at 11:00am. Visitation will also be held at the church Sunday, December 1st from 5:00pm to 8:00pm (rosary service at 7:00pm) and again on Monday from 10:00am to the time of service at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to God’s Helping Hands in Remus.
