Alan Edward McMillan Jr.'s Obituary
Alan Edward McMillan Jr. (Buz) passed away peacefully December 22, 2022, at his home in Canadian Lakes, he was 92 years old.
Alan was born in Hackensack, New Jersey on February 11, 1930. He lived on a farm in 1944 where he received an award from the U.S. Crop Corps for his “Patriotic Service on a Farm/Food Processing Factory” just prior to moving with his family to Oxford MI. He attended Oxford High School in the 9th grade where he excelled in academics and sports. Alan joined the Marine Corp in 1949 and served in the Korean War from 1950 to 1953. Alan had a distinguished career and was an MP, Buck Sergeant, Private First Class, Mess Sergeant, awarded to 1st Sergeant in 1952 and was awarded the “Good Conduct Award”.
Alan excelled in everything from God, Family, Country and sports. He was known at Canadian Lakes for his achievements in Bowling and Golf. He retired in 1991 from the Millar Elevator Company.
Alan met the love of his life, Anne V. (Zollner) the week he returned home from Korea and married her in 1955. His wife Anne preceded him to Heaven in 2014 shortly before their 60th Wedding Anniversary. Preceding Alan was his parents Alan Edward McMillan Sr. and Louise McMillan, along with siblings Francis McMillan, Kathleen (Kitty) and her husband David Schultz.
Alan is survived by his children Mark and (Joan 2022) McMillan, Paul and Lee McMillan, Janice and Peter Lenkens, Joanne and Greg Bowman, and his sister Caroline and Bob Collings. Alan has 9 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial service will be held at the Chapel of the Lakes, 9407 90th Avenue, Mecosta, Michigan, with Pastor John Bookshaw officiating. Visitation will take place an hour prior to the service. The service will be February 4 at 11:00 AM. Alan and his wife Anne will be laid to rest at White Chapel Memorial Park Cemetery at 621 Long Lake Rd, Troy, MI. This will be a military service and will be held on May 13, 2023, at 11:00 AM, in the mausoleum.
