Alberta Lee Hinkle's Obituary
Big Rapids-Alberta Lee Hinkle, 89, of Big Rapids passed away on April 19, 2015 at Evergreen Terrace surrounded by her family. She was born in Carbondale, IL on February 10, 1926, the daughter of Albert T. and Jessie L. (Swinford) Walters. Alberta married H. Jack Hinkle on March 16, 1947 in Carbondale, in the same house she was born. They moved to Big Rapids from Flint in 1968. In addition to raising her family, she worked in the Registrar's office at Ferris State College helping students schedule classes. She also worked for the Learning Nutrition program which served the needs of senior citizens in Mecosta County. She and Jack both retired from Ferris. They spent many winters together in Florida. Jack proceeded her in death in 2005 after 58 years of marriage. Alberta was a member of the hospital auxiliary and volunteered in the gift shop. She also enjoyed golfing with Jack and their golf group, playing bridge, reading, knitting, and gardening. She and Jack loved attending their grandchildren's activities and sporting events. Alberta is survived by five children: Dan of South Carolina, Pat (Mindy) of Cadillac, Nancy (Rex) Wiseman of Big Rapids, Marty (Tammy) of Texas, Penny (Kirk) McCauley of Richland, MI; 12 grandchildren: Dale Hinkle, Katie (Nick) Axford, Kelsey and Kyle Hinkle, Rob (Jenilee) Olson, Kristy (Scott) Thompson, Kerry Olson, Justin Wiseman, Amanda (Mick) Rickerd, Tim Hinkle, Kaylee and Erin McCauley, plus six great grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother, Archie (Guin) Walters, of Woodridge, IL and one brother-in-law, Verne (Norma) Hinkle of Florida plus many nieces and nephews, and special neighbors Terry and Kay Langworthy. Alberta was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack; two brothers, Ernest, and Bill Walters; one daughter -in-law, Judy Hinkle; and one son-in-law, Robert Olson. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 22, 2015, at the First United Methodist Church in Big Rapids, with Pastor Rebecca Morrison officiating. Alberta's family will greet friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Spectrum Health Hospice or the Spectrum Health Hospital Auxiliary or a charity of choice.
