Alice May Dunn's Obituary
Big Rapids - Alice Dunn, 92, of Big Rapids, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at home, following a brief illness. She was born June 8, 1924 in Big Rapids, the daughter of Wilhelm and Margaret (Zuke) Johnson, and was baptized in The Swedish Lutheran Church of Big Rapids. Alice attended the Pleasant View School through the eighth grade, and graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1943. On August 8 of that year, Alice married George L. Dunn, and they celebrated 52 years together until he passed away on February 25, 1996. For 23 years, Alice worked at Wolverine World Wide in Big Rapids. She attended the Stanwood Free Methodist Church (The Woods) for many years, and loved her Lord. Alice was the family matriarch, devoting her time and energy to her children's and grandchildren's education and well-being. She was an avid reader and history lover, and enjoyed travelling and genealogy. Alice is survived by her six children; Judy Kelly (Tom Skipper) of Rockford, Lois (Richard) Spedowski of Big Rapids, Lora Ellison (John Cady) of Reed City, Gordon G. Dunn (James Madura) of Fort Myers, FL, Gerald L. (Chris) Dunn of Fort Myers, FL, and Marian (Quentin) Kramer of Big Rapids; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren, (with one more on the way); her siblings Earl (Gloria) Johnson of Big Rapids, Anna Ruse of Adrian, Eva (Richard) Cone of Sparta, Kenneth Johnson of Stanwood; sisters-in-law Cathy Johnson of Montgomery and Margie Johnson of Big Rapids; and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter Ruth Ardena Dunn, son-in-laws Allen Junker and Jerry Ellison, a granddaughter Ann Spedowski, four brothers; Conrad, Wilhelm Jr., Arthur, and Paul Johnson, and three sisters, Doris Rhinebolt, Carol Arrendale, and Patricia Johnson. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 5, 2017, at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids, with Pastors Wayne Bullock and Ted Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Pine Plains Cemetery. Alice's family will greet friends at the funeral home on Thursday, May 4, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., and prior to services on Friday.
