Alice Stevens' Obituary
Big Rapids Alice Stevens, 86, of Kentwood, formerly of Big Rapids, passed away Sunday, March 29, 2009, at Breton Manor in Kentwood. She was born July 2, 1922, in Jackson Township, Indiana, the daughter of Frank and Emma (Gumm) Fasel. For 8 years, Alice was a teacher in public schools. She also taught religion classes and Bible study at her church. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church, then the Fellowship Christian Reformed Church. She volunteered with missionary projects, Christmas programs, and Bible studies. Alice is survived by her husband of 55 years, Everett; 2 children, Paul (Joann) Stevens of Morley, and Pamela (Paul Hatfield) Atwood of Kentwood; 4 grandchildren, Daniel (Rachel) Atwood of Grand Rapids, Matthias Stevens, Naomi Stevens, and Jonathan Stevens all of Morley; a brother, George Fasel of Plymouth, Indiana, and many nieces and nephews. Alice was also preceded in death by siblings, Cecil Fasel, Dorothy Taxton and Frank Fasel, and a sister-in-law, Shirley Fasel. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, April 3, 2009, at the Fellowship Christian Reformed Church in Big Rapids, with Rev. Edward Visser officiating. Burial will be in the Highland View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions for the Commission on Aging or Hospice may be left at the funeral home, where Alices family will greet friends on Thursday, April 2, 2009 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. and after 12:00 p.m. on Friday at the church.
