Alwin J. Wied's Obituary
Canadian Lakes-Alwin J. Wied, 93, of Canadian Lakes passed peacefully into the arms of his savior on Saturday, September 24, 2011. He was born on November 24, 1917 in Staplehurst, Nebraska the son of Jacob and Caroline (Bek) Wied. Al graduated from Concordia, Seward, Academy and from the University with a B.S. degree. His post graduate work continued at the University of Michigan where he was awarded the Master of the Arts degree. Al used his God-given talents in the teaching ministry where he served for 45 years as instructor/principal at Zion, Ocheyedan, Iowa, St. Peter, Edmonton, Canada, Grace, Dodge Center, Minnesota, Emmanuel, Dearborn and Lutheran High School West in Detroit. In retirement he served Chapel of the Lakes as organist, elder and a member of various committees. He married Verna nee Mueller in 1941 and they were blessed with two sons, Max and Marshal and two grandsons Aaron and Tyler. Al always felt thankful to God for using him in service to his church and the community. Memorial services for Alwin are being planned for a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Chapel of the Lakes Lutheran Church. Arrangements are made by the Mohnke Funeral Home, Big Rapids, Michigan.
