Apollonia Ottilia Newman's Obituary
Apollonia (Loni) Ottilia Newman, affectionately known as “Oma,” a long-time resident of Blanchard, Michigan, passed away at Comfort Care Assisted Living Facility in Mt. Pleasant, MI on August 20, 2025. Apollonia was born in Murnau, Oberbayern, Germany on July 22, 1927 to Franz and Viktoria (Schneider) Hausmann. She met Irvin “Junior” Newman while he was stationed in Germany during WWII. They were married on December 9, 1948 and they moved to the Blanchard area in 1949.
Apollonia primarily worked as a homemaker and mother raising her four children. Her passions were cooking, gardening and caring for the birds while observing nature and wildlife. She loved and enjoyed her children, grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren. She was a good friend to many and will be missed.
Apollonia is survived by her daughter, Marlene (Marni) Beutler of Lansing; her sons: Steven (Brenda) Newman of Blanchard; David Newman of Remus; and Brian (Heather Sackett) Newman of Howell; seven grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters; Franziska “Frances” (Hausmann) Karas and Kreszenz “Senta” (Hausmann) Moris; one brother, Ludwig Hausmann; her daughter-in-law, Barb Newman, and, her granddaughter, Kimberly Newman.
Private services will be held at a later date.
