Arthur Bennie Liberty's Obituary
Arthur B. Liberty (Art) age 76 from Vestaburg, MI passed away peacefully into the hands of his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 1, 2019 after a lengthy illness. He was surrounded by his loving family and friends.
He was born in Alma, MI on Easter Sunday, April 5, 1942 to Jack Laverne and Katie Elizabeth (Wright) Liberty. He was preceded in death by both parents, his brother Leon Jack Liberty, two sisters Patricia Ann (Liberty) Root and Nancy Kay (Liberty) LaCross, and granddaughter Amy Ann Guild.
He attended Alma public schools and served in the US Navy from 1959-1969 as an electrician's mate, which included several deployments to Vietnam aboard the aircraft carrier USS Roosevelt, CV42.
He married the love of his life Judith Ann Sorensen on Veterans Day November 11, 1960 in Elizabeth City North Carolina.
He returned to Alma after serving in the Navy and worked as an electrician at numerous manufacturing companies in the mid-Michigan area prior to becoming the maintenance supervisor for 14 years at Federal Mogul in Greenville, MI. After leaving Federal Mogul, he started his own company, Liberty Logic Software. He later expanded it into Nethawk, one of mid-Michigan's first internet services which he grew into ISP Management and sold when he retired in 2005.
He purchased the 114 year old Alma City Hall building in 2002. It housed ISP Management and several tenants. One of his proudest and most heartfelt accomplishments was installing monuments on the City Hall property which display the Ten Commandments and honors our nation's fire fighters.
He is survived by his wife Judy and three children; son Jim Liberty of Alma, MI and two daughters Tina (Donny) Guild of Alma and Tammy (Tim) Theisen of Blanchard, 11 grandchildren, 13 great children, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was a longtime member of The Elks Lodge 1400 in Alma where he had served as a Leading Knight, a member of the Masons, and he recently became a member of Moose Lodge 1566 in St. Louis.
He was an avid euchre player and a member of several euchre clubs where he was well known as an accomplished player. He also loved bird watching, camping and riding four wheelers off-road with family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 4, 2019 at the Alma Elks Club, 1400 Warwick Drive in Alma. A luncheon will be held immediately following the service.
