Arthur Lee Edward Schroeder's Obituary
Big Rapids - Arthur Lee Edward "Art" Schroeder, age 78, of Big Rapids passed away on Sunday, July 30, 2017 at his home. Art was born on May 4, 1939 the son of Arthur and Nina Schroeder in Jackson, Michigan. He was a beloved father to daughters Paula (Lee) Garver and Stephanie (Ed) Lartigue. He was the proud grandpa to granddaughters Elexis, Elecia, Kaci and Tayler and only grandson E. J. He was also a special companion to Vonda Wohlford with whom he spent many years. He will be missed by his loyal dog "Jake". Art graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1957. He proudly served in the United States Army, stationed in Germany as a Medical Corpsman as well as an expert marksman. He was honorably discharged in 1969. Following his military career, he began work with the Michigan State Highway Department and then went on to own East Town Garage. He later managed two Admiral Petroleum locations in Big Rapids before going on to own and operate A&C Transport prior to retirement. Art was known by many in the community having been a long-standing businessman. Art enjoyed supporting his grandchildren in their many activities and was their #1 fan. He charmed many with his great sense of humor and also with his many stylish automobiles that he bought and owned over the years. He also enjoyed keeping up with his childhood friends and reminiscing about the good ole days. The family expresses their dearest and most sincere thanks to the Spectrum Health Hospice team for the excellent care and support during this time. The family invites you to celebrate Arthur's life in a memorial luncheon that will be held at the Big Rapids Eagles Lodge on Sunday, August 6th, 2017 from 1-4:00 p.m.
