Arthur J. Witt's Obituary
Big Rapids Arthur J. Witt, 86, of Big Rapids, passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at Metron of Big Rapids. He was born February 14, 1922, in Big Rapids, the son of Arthur and Anna (Widlitzski) Witt, and graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1939. For over 25 years, Art worked at Ferris State College. He retired as Grounds Supervisor, and was responsible for much of the tree planting and landscaping on the campus. Art was also a lifetime member of St. Peters Lutheran Church. On October 23, 1942, he married Marjorie Miller, who survives. Also surviving are their 4 children, David of Kalamazoo, Vaughn (Alison) of Corpus Christi, TX, Linda (Bruce) Vanderveen of Brooksville, FL, and Kevin (Charlotte) of Jackson; 7 grandchildren, Ann, Emily, David, Jr., Eric, and Amber Lynn Witt, and Mark and Nathan Vanderveen; 1 great-granddaughter Page Vanderveen; and several nieces and nephews. Art was preceded in death by his sister Gertrude Wood. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 15, 2008, at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids, with Rev. John Bookshaw officiating. Burial will be in the Highland View Cemetery. Memorial contributions for St. Peters may be left at the funeral home, where Arts family will greet friends on Friday from 6-8 p.m., and prior to services on Saturday.
