Audrey Eleanor Harrison's Obituary
Paris - Audrey E. Harrison, 101, of Paris, passed away peacefully Monday, December 26, 2022, at her residence.
She was born August 9, 1921, in Chicago, the daughter of John and Barbara (Stuckmier) May, and moved with her family to Paris as a child. Audrey attended school in Paris, and graduated from Big Rapids High School.
In 1946, Audrey married Walter R. Harrison, and they made their home in Paris. For many years, she worked as the bookkeeper for the Paris Fish Hatchery. In the 1960's, Audrey and Walter purchased the Osceola Oil Company, and she ran the office until they retired.
Audrey was a longtime member of the Paris United Methodist Church, where she served as congregation treasurer for many years. She also enjoyed the woman's service group there, as well as her "Q-Tip" club. Audrey had a caregiving soul, tending to her family through good times and bad, and also loved to cook, serving Thanksgiving dinner for her family well into her 90s.
Audrey is survived by her daughter Linda Proefrock of Big Rapids; grandsons Jeff (Jeanne) Proefrock of Moorseville, NC, Joshua (Julie) Proefrock of Rockford; granddaughter-in-law Debra Proefrock of Hersey; her 6 great-grandchildren who were the light of her life, Thomas, Mackenzie, Paige, Aiden, Leah, and Adelynn; and several nieces and nephews, including her special nephew Darrel "Buck" Harrison. Audrey was preceded in death by her husband in 1983, her son-in-law Tom Proefrock in 2008, her grandson Jason Proefrock in 2018, and 3 siblings.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 30, 2022, at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids, with David Hanna officiating. Burial will take place in the Highland View Cemetery. Audrey's family will greet friends at the funeral home on Thursday, December 29, from 2-5 p.m., and after 10:00 a.m. on Friday. Memorial contributions in her name may be made to Hospice of Michigan.
