Barbara Jean Gregory's Obituary
Rodney -Barbara Jean Gregory, 89, of Rodney, passed away peacefully Monday, December 11, 2017, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born May 10, 1928 in Lansing, the daughter of Otto and Margaret (Brown) Harder, and graduated from Lansing Sexton High School. Barbara attended Lansing Community College and graduated as a Licensed Practice Nurse in 1953. On May 2, 1953, she married Marvin D. Gregory, and they moved to Rodney in 1962, where she had lived since. Barb worked as a nurse in the Labor & Delivery ward at the Big Rapids Community Hospital, and her favorite job of all was in the nursery. Barbara was a long- time member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Big Rapids, where she was involved with the MOPS (Mothers of Pre-schoolers) program. She was also a member of the Michigan Farm Bureau, assisted at Red Cross Blood drives, and volunteered for Meals -on -Wheels. Barb was famous for her home-made bread. Her husband Marvin preceded her in death in 2011. Surviving are 5 children, Nancy (Rob) Oosterhouse of Stanwood, Bruce (Colleen) Gregory of Rodney, Sharon (Steve) Zolnierek of Belmont, Marcia Beemer of Big Rapids, and Arlene (David) Loucks of Hemlock; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Joyce Hanford, Delores Tabor, and Agnes (Tom) Morris; 1 brother, Duane (Sirrae) Harder; a sister-in-law Joanne (John) Emmons of Big Rapids; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 14, 2017, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Big Rapids, with Pastor John Bookshaw officiating. Burial will follow in the Martiny Township Cemetery in Rodney. Barbara's family will greet friends at the Mohnke Funeral Home on Wednesday from 3-7 p.m. and at the church after 10 a.m. on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name may be made for St. Peter's Lutheran Church, with envelopes available at the church or funeral home.
