Bastian B.C. Bouman's Obituary
? ? Big Rapids, Bastian Cornelius "BC" Bouman, age 90, and lifelong resident of theBig Rapids area, died Friday morning, March 26th, at Altercare of Big Rapids. Bastian, the son of Nicholas and Marie Bouman was born September 16, 1919 in Big Rapids. He was drafted into the United States Army in January 1942, and served his country during World War II stationed in Iceland and various countries in Europe. During his service he received a Good Conduct medal along with a Middle Eastern Service medal with two Bronze Stars. After an Honorable Discharge, Bastian married his wife, Jeannette Marie Huber in May of 1946. Bastian worked for the Big Rapids Creamery and most notably farmed in the Paris area until his retirement in 1990. Whether it was fishing, hunting, tinkering with tractors, trucks or automobiles, Bastian enjoyed life and being outdoors, especially at his cottage in Pickford, Michigan in the Upper Peninsula. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with family and was always there to help anyone at anytime. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Jeannette Marie of Paris; four sons and four daughters, Michael (Helen) Bouman of Marquette, Sharon (Virgil) Snider of Mackinaw City, Jim (Kelly) Bouman of Paris, William Bouman of Millington, Marcia (Brad) Thomson of Atlanta, Georgia, Joe (Christine) Bouman of Big Rapids, Connie (Mike) Sheldon of Reed City and Sandy Morningstar of Big Rapids, two sisters, Marcia Weiner and Elizabeth Allen both of Holland, one brother, Chuck Bouman, 29 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Charlie, Clarence and Joe Bouman. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 29th at the Mohnke Funeral Home followed by Military Honors performed by the VFW and burial at West Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Mohnke Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.
