Beatrice McCarthy's Obituary
Big Rapids-Beatrice L. McCarthy, 74, of Big Rapids passed away on Monday, February 24, 2014. She was born on September 2, 1939 in Detroit, the daughter of James and Helen (Marlette) McCarthy. Bea worked at Bower's Restaurant years ago then for over 25 years in housekeeping at Metron Nursing Home where she retired in 2005. She lived in the same house on State Street for over 50 years in each of the three apartments and was the owner's longest term renter. Her favorite place for lunch was Pepper's where she appreciated their kindness and being a special "regular." Bea enjoyed going to community dinners at St. Mary Catholic Church and Big Rapids First United Methodist Church. She is survived by one sister, Marjorie Wilkinson of Vassar; one brother Don (Ruth) McCarthy of Big Rapids; one half sister, Mary Jo (Randy) VonFelt of Texas; one stepbrother, Bob Thomas of Greenville; one aunt, Evelyn Marshall of Evart; several nieces and nephews; and her companion, Precious, the cat. Bea was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother Robert, an infant sister Donna Jean, and a brother Jim McCarthy; and her stepfather, Joe Thomas. A memorial service for Bea will be at 1:00 pm. Saturday, March 8, 2014 at the Mohnke Funeral Home with Pastor Rebecca Morrison officiating.
