Benning Hoke Barber's Obituary
Big Rapids-Benning H. Barber, 85, of Big Rapids, formerly of Grand Ledge, passed away Tuesday, August 19, 2014. He was born on February 17, 1929 in Vermontville, Michigan, the son of Claude and Orpha (Atwell) Barber. He was employed by General Motors in Lansing for 30 years, retiring in 1980. Benning was a long time member of the Jehovah's Witness' in Grand Ledge and Big Rapids. He is survived by two daughters, Debbra (Craig) Courter, and Renee (Paul) Curtiss; three sons, William Barber, Ben (Lori) Barber, and Robert (Debra) Barber; ten grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother, Claude Barber, and one sister, Mary Plowman plus many nieces and nephews. Benning was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gloria (Howe) Barber; plus five brothers and sisters. A memorial service for Benning will be at 2:00 pm Monday, August 25, 2014 at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Elder Billy Roberts officiating. Benning's family will greet friends beginning at 1:00 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kingdom Hall of Big Rapids.
