Bernard Burnell Behrenwald's Obituary
Lakeview-Bernard Burnell Behrenwald, age 88, of Lakeview passed away at his home on April 3, 2018. Bernard was born on January 23, 1930, in Lakeview, the son of Lyle H. and Marian (Colburn) Behrenwald.
Bernard attended Lakeview Community Schools and graduated with the class of 1948. On July 14, 1951, he married Mirdza Aina Skuburs. He served in the Army for 2 years during the Korean War.
He was very active in the community, his whole life, holding positions on the village council and museum board. He was a member of the Masons and a Lakeview VFW Hough-Pontius post life member. Bernard had a generous and giving nature and enjoyed helping all in need; and all who knew him was better because of him. He was a hard worker and did not know the term "can't be done". He had the ability to create and make things to better the lives of all those around him.
Bernard was a tractor and farm mechanic and salesman working with his father for over 20 years in the family businesses, L. H. Behrenwald & Sons, until the early sixties. He then was co-owner of Jones & Behrenwald Trucking; and was also co-owner of W. B. Fabrications with his son, Walt, for 20 years, until 2010. Upon retiring, he continued assisting Walt with the business until Walt's passing in 2017. He enjoyed building, working with metal and wood, working outside, (the hands on stuff), vacationing in Denver, Colorado and Florida, flying, being at the pond and fishing; but most of all, spending time with his family.
Bernard is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Mirdza Behrenwald of Lakeview; his son, Allan Behrenwald of Lakeview; two grandchildren, Rodney Behrenwald of Lakeview, and Krista (Aaron) Arnold of Ionia; five great-grandchildren Gabrielle, Karleigh, Kensington Arnold, and Shevi, Garrett Behrenwald; one brother, William "Bill" (Ruth) Behrenwald of Lake City, FL; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Lyle and Marian Behrenwald; son, Walter D. Behrenwald in 2017; and two siblings, Laurel Behrenwald and Marquita Williams.
No services for Bernard have been scheduled at this time.
