Bert Edward Carrick, Jr.'s Obituary
Bert Edward Carrick Jr. age 79, passed away in Lansing, Michigan with family at his side. Bert was born on September 27, 1935 in Marion, Michigan, the son of Bert and Vera (Jenkins) Carrick Sr. Bert graduated from Vestaburg High School in 1953 and continued his education at Davenport University. Bert was united in marriage to the love of his life, Karen Foster on January 17, 1958 in Alma, Michigan. He was co-owner and president of Bonnavilla Homes in NE, then moved to TX in 1986 and was a salesman for 20 years, for Phillips Industries, selling doors and windows. He later moved to TN in 2006 and retired in 2009. Bert then moved to back to MI to retire to the family homestead to enjoy his golden years with the love of his life. Bert was an adoring husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed coaching football, baseball and wrestling. He was very actively involved in the Boy Scouts, as a leader, while his sons were growing up. He loved to watch and be involved in his children's and grandchildren's sporting events and lives. Bert was an extensive traveler for business and pleasure. He traveled to 49 states and over 20 countries. He will be dearly missed.
Bert is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Karen "Kay" of Edmore, MI, 5 sons; Bert III (Linda), of Franklin, TN, Brett (Diana) of Dallas, TX, Brad (Vicki) of Grand Island, NE, Barry of Grand Island, NE and Brook (Cindy) of Leander, TX, a daughter; Kristin of Edmore, MI, 14 loving grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, who he loved dearly, brothers and sisters; Dale (Pat) Carrick of MO, Ellen Markham of Winn, MI, Ron (Louise) Carrick of Lansing, MI, Nina (Wayne) Woodrow of Vestaburg, MI and Nancy (Phil) Fox of MT. Bert was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Ida Sandusky.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will take place Wednesday, January 25, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. from the Community of Christ Church, Vestaburg, MI with Minister Ray Persall officiating. Those planning a memorial contribution are asked to consider the wishes of the family.
