Betsy Ann Melhorn's Obituary
Big Rapid - Betsy Ann Mehlhorn, 88, of Canadian Lakes, passed away Sunday, December 18, 2016 at Spectrum Health Big Rapids Hospital. She was born July 4, 1928 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Glenn and Frances (Fink) Fitzsimmons, where she graduated from high school. On March 17, 1951, she married Richard J. Mehlhorn, and they moved to Canadian Lakes in 1996, where she had lived since. Betsy was a member of Chapel of the Lakes Lutheran Church. Her husband Richard preceded Betsy in death in 2001. Surviving are 2 daughters, Christine (Dennis) Weiand of Flower Mound, TX, Susan (Stephen) Taylor of Chelsea; 8 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Betsy was also preceded in death by a daughter Paula Bennett, a son James Mehlhorn, a granddaughter Amanda Taylor, sisters Ina Fitzsimmons and Jean Larys, and a brother Roy Fitzsimmons. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 21, 2016, at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids, with Pastor Jonathan Williams officiating. Betsy's family will greet friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday. Memorial contributions in her name may be made for Chapel of the Lakes Church, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
