Betty Jane Hixson's Obituary
On October 1, 2023, Betty Jane Hixson joined the heavenly realm, passing into Eternity just days shy of her 85th birthday.
Left to carry on her memory are her beloved husband of 65 years, Gale; children, Ken Hixson and Cindy (Ted) Marthakis; daughter-in-law Karen Hixson; 10 Grandchildren and 12 Great-Grandchildren;twin sister, Anne (Bill) Fleming, and brother, Carl Wolfrom; as well as a beloved lab, Mandy. Her cherished son, Chris, preceded her in death as well as her parents.
Betty attended Ohio University & Ohio State University where she excelled in the classroom and athletics. She played field hockey at Ohio State University and was a badminton champion at Ohio University.
In 1958, she married her love, Gale Hixson. They lived in the Pontiac area for 17 years. She had a love for sewing and quilting, becoming nationally recognized for her quilts. She was a talented violinist, playing in the Pontiac Symphony. She passed this love of quilting and music to her children and grandchildren. Her quilts will hold memories for generations to come.
In 1977, Betty and Gale moved to Canadian Lakes, opening Hixson's Family Market where Betty worked for many years. She eagerly joined sewing circles, Bridge clubs, and was an outstanding line dancer. She was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church.
Betty's children and family were the shining stars of her life. She enjoyed picnics at “Lake Betty Jane” on the “Hixson Ranch” with her children, Grandchildren, and Great Grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by all.
Services for Betty will be held at the Janowicz Family Funeral Home on Friday, October 6, 2023 at 11am, with Pastor Wayne McKinney presiding. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Oct. 5th from 5-7pm and again on Friday from 10-11am at the funeral home. Those desiring to make a donation in her honor may direct them to New Hope United Methodist Church.
