Bobby Joe Smith Sr.'s Obituary
A jolly soul was lost to the living when Bobby Joe Smith, Sr. passed away on May 16, 2023 closely following his 79th birthday. Bobby was born on April 30, 1944 to a large and rambunctious family, the 11th child of Martha Adams. Raised in Ohio, Bobby Joe moved to Hollywood California, where he found richness and adoration in the form of his beloved wife, Marilyn O’Dell. Bobby and Marilyn moved to Arizona where they got married, lived, and worked for 10 years.
After marrying in October of 1986, Bobby and Marilyn settled into family life, growing their own brood with 5 children. Bobby supported his family by his keen ability with machinery as an over the road truck driver, a job that Marilyn could join in on and keep him company. He loved his family and driving whether it be his big trucks or the lawnmower meticulously caring for the household lawn.
A gregarious character, he enjoyed talking to anyone and everyone from dear friends to complete strangers who became new friends, charming all with his sense of humor. While Bobby loved people, he had an inner core of independence and a long stubborn streak that kept him solid. In his earlier years, he enjoyed bowling but as the family grew, Bobby made sure to include the kids in most everything he could and relished in the time he spent with the grandkids.
He will be greatly missed by the family, but his memory will remain alive every time they go camping or feeding the birds, both activities that brought Bobby joy.
Left to carry on his memory are his widow, Marilyn; Children: Jenifer (Ryan) Boertman, Tiffany Kozlowski, Ashley Smith, Rebecca Krikendall, and Bobby Smith Jr.; Grandchildren: Taylor, Morgan, Stosh, Carlie, Khari, Zheva, Zeke, Evelyn, and Atlus; Sister Anne Reed; Several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his 9 siblings and twin brother at birth.
