Bruce William Jacobs' Obituary
Big Rapids - Bruce William Jacobs, 77, of Big Rapids, passed away Thursday, September 2, 2021, at Newaygo County Compassion Home in Fremont.
He was born June 7, 1944, in Holland, the son of William and Beatrice (Kooyers) Jacobs. Bruce graduated from Holland High School in 1962, attended Ferris State College and received his Master's Degree from Michigan State University.
For 31 years, Bruce worked at Ferris State University, teaching Heavy Equipment Technology. Bruce was a member of the Big Rapids Aerie Eagles #2535, and the BPO Elks # 974. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing, and had many memories of Norway Lake Bear Camp. Bruce loved to feed large crowds, helping with the Elks fish fries and the turkey feeds at Ferris.
In 1964, Bruce married Phyllis R. Caauwe, who survives. Also surviving are their children, Tim (Jen) of Buffalo Grove, IL and Katie Maxon of Iron Mountain; five grandchildren Benjamin, Heloise, and Cam Jacobs, Jacob and Lucas Maxon; his brother Bill (Nancy) Jacobs of Hamilton; his sister Barb (Mike) Bettiga of Denton, TX; and several nieces and nephews
Bruce's family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Altercare, Elara Caring Hospice, Newaygo County Compassion Home, Spectrum Home Health Care, nurse Jodi, Dr. Rachel Williams, and Spectrum Advanced Heart Failure Clinic for their kindness and excellent care.
Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, September 19, 2021, at Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Pastor Jeremy Wicks officiating. Bruce's family will greet friends at the funeral home beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday. The Celebration of his life will continue with a luncheon from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Mecosta Township Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to Newaygo County Compassion Home, or a charity of your choice.
