Carol T. Rutledge's Obituary
Lakeview Carol T. Rutledge, 94, of Lakeview, passed away Saturday June 14, 2008, at Michigan Masonic Home in Alma. She was born July 31, 1913, in Lakeview, the daughter of Herman and Sadie (Hubbard), and raised near Indianapolis, Indiana. Her aspiration of being a teacher led her to attend Indiana State College in Hanover, Indiana. She received her Masters Degree from Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. Carols career in education included teaching English for four years in Indiana, teaching sixth grade in Lakeview Middle School, Supervision of Lakeview Area Rural Schools, and followed by her position of principal. Her next career move returned Carol to her true love, that of teaching English Literature. After twenty-seven and a half years in education at age 60, Carol retired. In Indiana after completing college Carol met her husband, Elbert Rutledge and married in 1940. Carols husband Elbert preceded her in death in 1949. Surviving are her 2 sons, Tony (Connie) of Big Rapids, Doug of Lakeview; 1 daughter-in-law, Lisa Knight of Englewood, FL; 1 granddaughter; 6 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Carol is preceded in death by a granddaughter and a daughter-in-law. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday June 23, 2008, at the Michigan Masonic Home in Alma, with Pastor George officiating. Memorial services with burial in Slate Ridge Cemetery will be held at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to the Mohnke Funeral Home.
