Charles Wayne Cargill's Obituary
Charles "Charlie" Wayne Cargill went to be in God's presence on November 9, 2022.
Born on June 9, 1932, to Boyd Simpson and Ruby Vaughn Cargill. Charles served two years in the United States Army from 1952 - 1954 before joining the Detroit Police Department in June 1955, where he was promoted to detective, then detective sergeant, followed by detective lieutenant and finally inspector. He retired in July of 1981, after 26 years of service.
He was a member of the Stanwood, MI Lion's Club, and also served as their president. Charles loved playing basketball, fishing, golfing (which he scored two hole in ones), and being with his family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Boyd Simpson-Cargill; mother, Emma Ruby Robinson; stepfather, Ralph Robinson; brother, Gene Arvid Cargill and niece, Heather Cargill Milloux.
Left to cherish his memory are his beautiful wife of over 65 years, Martha "Ruth" Cargill (VanTifflin) whom he married May 18, 1957; two sons, Charles Stewart (Annette Marie) Cargill and James Thomas Cargill; grandchildren, Jonathan and Linnea Cargill, Katie and Larry Ratliffe, Richard Cargill, Jessica and Daniel Carrick, Jacqueline Cargill, Scott and Ashley Cargill, Michael, Isaiah, Joshua, and Stephanie Cargill; five great-grandchildren, Jabez and Azel Ratliffe, Esther and Ella Carrick, and Paisley Cargill, and his church family at Trinity Fellowship Evangelical Free Church, Big Rapids, MI.
The family will honor Charles with a memorial service at the Trinity Fellowship EFC Ministry Center, 15085 220th Ave. Big Rapids, MI 49307, this Saturday, November 12, 2022, at 4pm with a fellowship meal immediately following. All are welcome to come and honor Charles' memory with us. Care and arrangements are entrusted to the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids.
