Christopher Gale Hixson's Obituary
On July 11, 2022, Christopher Gale Hixson died, just shy of his 63rd birthday. Born to Gale and Betty (Wolfrom) Hixson on August 22, 1959, they raised Chris and his siblings where he grew to love the outdoors. This love translated into owning his own taxidermy business where he was able to preserve the beauty that surrounded him. Many hunters and fisherman would bring their trophy to Chris, trusting him to conserve the beauty of the animal with his artistic ability. He had a natural comradery with his taxidermy clients and friends.
Chris married his sweetheart, Karen Ferguson, on September 7, 1985, and together they raised their children Nicholas and Kristen, sharing the love of the outdoors. Chris loved to take the family hunting and fishing, telling tall tales and sometimes even true tales of adventures in the woods and beyond. He took great joy in watching an angler hook their first catch and was almost as proud as they were when out on a charter trip. Chris was a big football fan, enjoying all levels of the game, but none more than when his son was playing. Traveling the country with family as they watched his son play professional football and daughter competing as an elite pole vaulter, was a highlight of Chris’s life.
25 years ago, Christopher held the honored position as the Morton Township Fire Chief and carried the heart of a public servant ever since. When first meeting Chris, one may think he was a quiet and reserved man; that is until he got a chance to talk about his grandchildren, fishing, or hunting. Chris and Karen enjoyed traveling and going on vacations with friends and family, especially when the children and grandchildren were involved. Dinners with family will not be the same in his absence.
Christopher is survived by his wife, Karen; son, Nicholas (Catherine) Hixson; daughter, Kristen (Kevin) Leland; grandchildren Scarlett, Connor, and Levi; Parents, Gale and Betty Hixson; Brother, Ken Hixson, and sister, Cindy (Ted) Marthakis.
A funeral service will be held in Chris’s honor Friday, July 15th, at 11:00 am, at Janowicz Family Funeral Home-Remus, with Father Tom Boufford officiating. Burial will follow in St. Michael Cemetery. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
