Clayre Ann Windquist's Obituary
Big Rapids - Clayre Ann Windquist, 87, of Big Rapids, passed away peacefully with her family by her side at home on Dec 21, 2020, after a long battle with breast cancer.
Clayre was born June 15, 1933, in Big Rapids, the daughter of Stanley and Eva Mae (Ely) Schuberg. She was raised on the family farm near Clear Lake, and graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1951. On February 20, 1953, Clayre married her high school sweetheart and best friend, Robert (Bob) Windquist, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, where she was a lifelong member.
Clayre worked for dentist Dr. Morris before marrying. She and Bob were members of the Swing Eights square dancing group in their early years. After her 4 children were all in school, she loved helping students at the Ferris State Book Store for 25 years.
Clayre enjoyed getting together with her many gal friends to play cards and visit. She was a member of the Clear Lake Community Club for several years, and Clayre and her sister loved jig saw puzzles. Her children and grandchildren were the highlights of her life.
Bob passed away in 1996 after they enjoyed two years of retirement and relished some traveling together. Clayre was also preceded in death by her parents, and her brother-in-law Gene Harris on Jan. 4, 2020.
Clayre is survived by her children, Julie (Doug) Lindsay, Beth Windquist, and "the twins" Craig (Toni) Windquist and Carl (Karen) Windquist; her grandchildren Casey Windquist, Kenda (Tommy) Ralston, Kyle Windquist, Chris Longton, Matt Windquist, and Neil Perdue; 3 great-grandchildren; her brother Wayne (Anna May) Schuberg, and his twin, sister Eathyl Harris; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
Clayre was a wonderful wife, daughter, sibling, mother, grandmother and friend. Her smile was genuine and sweet. Her loving nature and presence will truly be missed by those in her life. But knowing she is with Bob and Jesus is of comfort to those left behind. The family would like to thank the Spectrum Health Hospice team that offered great comfort in these last few months.
There will be no public services, and Clayre's cremains will be laid to rest with Bob at Pine Plains Cemetery. Memorial contributions in her name may be made to Spectrum Health Hospice. Care and arrangements are entrusted to the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids. Share a memory or express condolences at mohnkefuneralhome.com.
