Clayton C. Capen's Obituary
Clayton C. Capen, age 77, passed away March 29, 2014, in Mission, Texas, after his battle with cancer. A funeral service will take place Saturday, April 12th, at Chapel of the Lakes Lutheran Church in Mecosta, at 11:00am. Pastor Paul Schnider will officiate with a burial to follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Mecosta. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that those desiring make a memorial contribution in Clayton’s honor to Susan P. Wheatlake Regional Cancer Center at 4499 220th Ave., Reed City, MI 49677. Envelopes will be available at the church.
Clayton was born November 11, 1936, in Mecosta, MI, the son of Fred D. and Vera R. (Cox) Capen. After growing up in the area and earning an associates degree from Ferris, he opened a T.V. & appliance business, Capen Electric Company. He was a very creative entrepreneur, which showed through his various successful ventures.
Passionate, determined, and jack of all trades were words used to describe Clayton. He was a private pilot who had a great love for flying, as well as buying and selling airplanes. Genealogy, bee keeping, and traveling to his two homes in Texas and Mexico were also among Clayton’s favorite things to do.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 25 years, Joyce; son, Craig (Lisa) Capen; daughter, Colette Capen; brother, Marvin Capen
; sister, Inez Nolan; brother-in-law, William Arszulowicz; six grandchildren, Rebecca, Gabriel, Sarah, Ariel, Harte, and Jared; Clayton will also be greatly missed by the Karl Schriener family of Mexico.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Bernice; five half-brothers and sisters, Mary, Gertrude, Emmet, Jean, and John, and sister-in-law, Bonnie.
