Clayton Albert Eckert's Obituary
Big Rapids-Clayton A. Eckert, age 76, of Big Rapids passed away Saturday November 17, 2012 at Spectrum Meijer Heart Center in Grand Rapids. He was born on March 8, 1936 in Big Rapids, the son of Millard and Gladys (Noder) Eckert. Clayton graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1955. He served in the U.S. Army in 1960-61 and was stationed in Germany for a year. He worked for over 20 years at Michigan-Wisconsin Pipe Line, Austin Field, retiring in 1991. He loved to hunt, fish and bowl. Clayton also enjoyed auction sales, and flee markets where he collected antique glassware. He is survived by Martha (Hilliker), his wife of 56 years, two sons, Edward (Patricia Redburn) Eckert of Mecosta and David (Steven Vance) Eckert of California, two grand daughters, Kelly (Terry) Ruppert, and Shanna Eckert, five great grand children, Zander, Aiden, Noaln, Steven and Destiny. Also surviving are four brothers, William (Dorothy) Eckert of Missouri, Roy Eckert of Morley, Maynard Eckert of Big Rapids, Harold (Elaine) Eckert of Big Rapids, and one sister, Mildred "Millie" (J.J.) Greyzck of Belding, plus many nieces and nephews. Clayton was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Donald and two sisters, Margaret Ward and Jane Preston. A memorial service for Clayton will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, November 24, 2012 at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids. His family will greet visitors beginning at 10:30 a.m. prior to services. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hope Lodge.
