Craig Bruce Karsama's Obituary
Dr. Craig Bruce Karsama, MD, 71, of Big Rapids, Michigan, passed away on Saturday November 22, 2025. Born on August 29, 1954, in Hancock, Michigan, Craig was the son to Bruce and Lillian (Keranen) Karsama.
Craig graduated from Garden City High School in 1972 and earned a Bachelor of General Studies from the University of Michigan in 1976. He completed his medical degree at Wayne State University School of Medicine in 1980, followed by a residency in Radiology and a fellowship with advanced training in MRI, CT, ultrasound, and interventional radiology.
In 1983, Craig enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as a physician in Pensacola, Florida until 1986. After his military service, he returned to Michigan and settled in Shelby Township, where he worked as a radiologist at St. Joseph Pontiac. In 1994, he relocated to Big Rapids and joined Mecosta County General Hospital as a radiologist. Craig was dedicated and skilled in his profession, serving the Big Rapids Community until his retirement in 2014.
Craig had a lifelong passion for sports and was a devoted fan of Detroit teams and University of Michigan football, rarely missing a game. He loved spending time outdoors skiing and golfing, and for many years, running was one of his greatest joys. Above all, Craig was a loving father and grandfather, cherishing every moment with his family.
Craig is survived by his children, Kevin B. Karsama and Jennifer (Jacob) Mohnke; grandchildren, Aeris Karsama and Ronald Mohnke; brothers Chris (Ann Marie) Karsama, Kevin J. (Nancy) Karsama, many nieces and nephews, and his former spouse Maria Konopka.
He will be deeply missed by extended family, friends, and all who were blessed to share in his life.
A Memorial will be held on Saturday December 6, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Mohnke Janowicz Funeral Home at 128 S. Warren, Big Rapids, MI 49307. Craig will be laid to rest in a family ceremony in the summer of 2026.
