Darell Jack Sengelaub's Obituary
Reed City - Darell J. Sengelaub, 85, of Reed City, passed away Monday, March 5, 2018, at Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids.
He was born January 11, 1933, on the family farm near Reed City, the son of John and Lydia (Haist) Sengelaub and lived there his entire life. Darell was confirmed in the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Reed City and graduated from Reed City High School in 1951.
Darell served in the U.S. Army from 1955-1957, stationed in Germany. Following his discharge, he earned his B.S. in Accounting from Ferris State College, and his M.B.A. from Central Michigan University. For 33 years, Darell served on the faculty at Baldwin High School as a business teacher until retiring in 1995.
Darell was also a life-long farmer. As a boy he belonged to the 4-H and Future Farmers of America. He was a member of the Farm Bureau for many years, as well as a member of the American Legion. Darell also enjoyed fishing and riding his motorcycle and snowmobile.
Darell is survived by two sisters, Marjorie Bluhm of Big Rapids, and Neomia J. Bubert of Lombard, II; one brother Erwin (Beverly) Sengelaub of Reed City; six nieces, Carol Kessler, Delores (Tom) Dazell, Marlene (Larry) Eichenberg, Maureen (Larry) Ernst, Mary Beth Bubert, and Janalee (Gary) Graham; five nephews, Maynard (Diane) Bluhm, Richard (Lynn) Bluhm, John (Jill) Bubert, Thomas (Teri) Bubert, and Rollin Sengelaub; and many grand nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers-in-law Ervin Bluhm and Rollin Bubert, and nephew Larry Sengelaub.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 10, 2018 at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids, with Rev. Kathy Cadarette officiating. Burial will follow in the Woodland Cemetery in Reed City. Darell's family will greet friends at the funeral home beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Memorial contributions in his name may be made to the Susan B. Wheatlake Regional Cancer Center, or the Reed City United Methodist Church, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
