Darwin James Thorpe Sr.'s Obituary
Big Rapids - Darwin James Thorpe, Sr., 69, of Rogers Heights, passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at his residence.
He was born November 22, 1948, in Marquette County, MI, the son of Frank and Mary (Narovich) Thorpe. After graduation from high school, Darwin joined the U. S. Army, and was stationed in Korea with the Eighth Infantry Division. Following his discharge, he returned to Stanwood, and has lived in the area since.
On October 17, 1986, he married Beverly Sutton, who survives. Also surviving are his daughter Mary (Jerry) Petersen of Stanwood, his son Darwin, Jr., of Stanwood, and his daughter Debra Vanliew of Arkansas; 5 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren, (with one more on the way); his sister Charlotte Reel of South Haven; his brother Alan of Fleming, GA; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Darwin will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 21, 2018 at the Rogers Heights Christian Church, with Elder Scott Davidson officiating. A luncheon will follow immediately at the church. Burial will be in the Ladner Cemetery in Rogers Heights. Memorial contributions in his name may be made to the church, or to Spectrum Health Hospice.
