David Vernon Hortemiller's Obituary
Mecosta - David Vernon Hortemiller, 89, of Mecosta passed away peacefully on February 14, 2015. He was born on April 4, 1925 in Bathville, Indiana, the son of the late Bernard and Madeline (Durkin) Hortemiller. Dave grew up in Wayne, Michigan. He earned Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Eastern Michigan University. Dave was an engineer with Lockheed-Martin / Naval Weapons Station in Charleston, South Carolina. In retirement, he and his wife lived at Round Lake. Dave was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Remus where he also was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Dave enjoyed fishing and golfing with his friends. He is survived by two daughters, Stephanie (Royce) and Sherrie (Dan) Percy; four grandchildren, Joan (Daniel) Ilagan, Mandy (Will) Davis, Stacy (Chad) Upson, and Sam (Jean) Percy; and nine great grandchildren. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews who cared for and spent time with their "Uncle Dave." Dave was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joyce Ann; son, David Jr.; one brother, Bernard "Bud" Hortemiller; and one sister, Gertrude "Sally" Bryant. A memorial Mass will be 11:00 am on Thursday, March 5, 2015 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Remus, Michigan. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Michael's Catholic School Foundation
