David Wesley Pletcher's Obituary
Stanwood - David W. Pletcher, Jr., 85, of Canadian Lakes, passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2017, at his residence. He was born November 23, 1931, in Jackson, the son of David and Stella (DeSavage) Pletcher, and was a graduate of Jackson High School. David attended Jackson Junior College, and then earned his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Michigan. In 1954, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and served on active and reserve duty for 18 years until his honorable discharge. David worked as a chemical engineer in the automotive and aerospace industries throughout the country. On June 30, 1956, he married Valeta N. Blue, and they resided in Chelsea until retiring to Canadian Lakes in 1997. Survivors include his wife; 4 children, David W. (Cindy) Pletcher, III of Raleigh, NC, Diana (Jeffrey) McColloch of Menlo Park, CA, Valisa (Scott) Vanderhill of Big Rapids, Daniel (C.J.) Pletcher of Byron Center; 10 grandchildren, Andy, Emily, Steven, Elizabeth, Micah, Luke, Leah, Abigail, Nathan, and Elijah; a great-granddaughter Joanna; his sister Mary Merrill of Denver, CO; brothers-in-law Leonard Shore and Marcus (Diane) Blue of Jackson; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son Marcus, sisters Aileen Shore and Frances Miles, and brothers-in-law Ormal Merrill and Robert Miles. Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017, at Fellowship Christian Reformed Church, 407 Perry Street in Big Rapids, with Pastor Ken Krause officiating. David's family will greet friends at the church beginning at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Committal services with military honors will be at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 6, at Roseland Memorial Gardens in Jackson. Memorial contributions in his name may be made for Hospice of Michigan, with envelopes available at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids, where arrangements are entrusted.
