David Vernon Wininger's Obituary
Big Rapids -David Wininger -76, of Big Rapids passed away peacefully in his home on March 23, 2020.
Dave was born in Kirksville, MO in 1943, the son of Vernon and Catherine (Purdue) Wininger. As a young man, Dave (aka 'Doc' to his closest friends) loved to work on anything mechanical and had a brilliant mind that always craved for more knowledge. Most of the people who knew him also knew he could fix anything (thus the nickname).
He married his high school sweetheart Linda in Greenville, MI and then moved to Big Rapids, MI to start his lifelong career at Ferris and to start a family. Dave became a teacher at Ferris State University and taught in the Graphic Arts department for many years before becoming the AV director. People thought of him as kind, gentle, loving, always willing to help, innovative, and ahead of his time regarding technologies.
Dave is survived by his three daughters, Melani (Kenn) Pickel, Amber Wininger, and Danielle Wininger, all of Traverse City, MI; his four grandchildren, Ian, Edy, Kamryn, and Kaiden; his sister Carol (Dick) Allen; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A private service will be held later this year. Due to public health concerns in lieu of flowers if you wish to send a card, please address to: Melani Pickel, 4376 Foxfire Drive, Traverse City, MI, 49684. Please feel free to share a memory or express condolences at www.mohnkefuneralhome.com
