Dawn Louise DeGeorge's Obituary
Mohnke Janowicz Funeral Home
Dawn Louise DeGeorge, age 53, passed away on January 18, 2024.
Born to Buckner and Carmen (Sturdavant) Shahan on the 8th of June 1970, Dawn was the fourth of five children, ushering in the summer for the Shahan family. Growing up with 4 siblings, Dawn honed her sense of humor and love of the outdoors, having a special affinity for the Michigan summers.
Full of wit and queen of the quick retort, Dawn had a terrific sense of humor, making her a joy to be around and creating fast friends wherever she went. Dawn loved to chat and if there was something to know, she was the first one with the information. The busy body she was, Dawn always managed to run all her errands and still had enough time to chat with everyone she encountered.
In the summertime, passersby’s marveled at her well-cared for lawn and if one looked closer, they may even find her relaxing in it, catching a good tan. Dawn was an eager traveler who loved to discover a new place or head to an old favorite, especially Mackinac. She loved being on the water, especially when tubing or kayaking. When she did relax, it was usually to watch a good football game or NASCAR.
The shining lights in her life were her children, whom she was extremely proud of. In the rare moments she couldn’t be in their company, she was telling anyone and everyone about their latest achievements. Famous for her taco salad and peanut butter cookies, Dawn loved how her simple treats brought smiles to faces and warmed the hearts of those who she adored. Her memory will come alive each time her recipes are used and she will live on in the hearts of all who loved her.
Preceding Dawn in death are her parents, Buckner and Carmen. Left to cherish Dawn’s legacy are her children, Michael DeGeorge and Carmen Lowrie; grandchildren, Kyra and Nova; siblings, Tracy (Dale) Schoner, Melissa Welch, Dawn (Kenny) Shoemaker, and Ronald (Michelle) Welch; special friend Fran Kieronski, and much loved nieces & nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m., Friday, February 2, 2024, at Mohnke Janowicz Funeral Home in Big Rapids. Dawn’s family will greet friends one hour prior to services. Those desiring may share a memory with the family at mohnkefuneralhome.com
