Dean Ernest Walldorff's Obituary
Lakeview-Dean Ernest Walldorff, of Six Lakes passed away on February 28, 2021 while wintering in Arizona. He was born on June 19, 1933 in Flint, MI, the son of Clare and Mabel Walldorff. He was preceded in death by his parents, all four siblings: Wayne, Neil, Eleen and Natalie, father and mother in-law Otho and Florence Taylor, brother-in-law Larry Taylor and his wife Norma, Mark Walldorff and Douglas Carr, both nephews.
Dean lived in Six Lakes nearly his whole life. He focused on his family - as a son, a brother/brother-in-law, a husband, a dad, a father-in-law, a grandfather, great-grandfather, an uncle and a great-uncle. He was a good friend to many. He cared deeply about his country, community and church - served 2 years in the United States Army during the Korean War, spent 38 years on the Six Lakes Fire Department - 20 of those as Chief, was a Mason for 63 years, served 30 years as a board member of Isabella Bank and Trust, owned a local business and was a trustee and volunteer at his church. Helping people was important to him and he helped, often very quietly and behind the scenes.
Dean enjoyed snowmobiling, camping, traveling, playing golf (most of the time, but he did enjoy that hole in one!), watching sports, telling jokes and being with family and friends. He could carry on a kind and funny conversation with anyone. During his later years, you could often find him on the patio watching the traffic go by, enjoying the shade and breeze of the trees.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Myrna Walldorff; two daughters, Shelly and Mark Ernst of Northville, MI, Ann and Jim D'Orazio of Vicksburg, MI; brother-in-law Larry Carr of Mesa, AZ, brother-in-law Jerry Young of Grand Rapids, MI and sister-in-law Carolyn Near of Alma, MI; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and "bonus" daughter Marcia Boyer of Edmore.
A Celebration of Life Memorial and luncheon will be held on Saturday, July 10 beginning at 11:00 am with family visitation at 10:00 am. The service will be at New Life United Methodist Church at 6584 W. Howard City-Edmore Road in Six Lakes, MI 48886.
