Delores Marie Doerr's Obituary
Delores “Dody” Marie Doerr passed away on January 14, 2022, with her loving husband of 67 years by her side. She was 91. A funeral service will be held at Saint Michael Catholic Parish on Wednesday, January 19 with a rosary at 9:30am, followed by a one hour visitation, funeral mass and burial.
Dody was born on November 3rd, 1930 to Murlene Burdick and Arlton Benfield in Bracketville, TX. She moved to Michigan and eventually met the love of her life, Alphonsus “Al” Doerr. Together they raised five daughters in Lansing, and they spent many memorable summers at their house on Lake Mecosta. When Al retired in 1984, Dody and Al continued to reside in Lansing and moved permanently to Mecosta in 1996 where they were actively involved in the community through the VFW and the St. Michael Catholic Parish.
Dody always showed great love for her family and many close friends. If you ever dropped in on Dody, you could always expect to be welcomed with a beverage and great conversation at her kitchen table. If you weren’t taking in a view of Lake Mecosta, you’d probably be admiring her picture-covered refrigerator, proudly showcasing her grandchildren who she loved so much. She would probably be cooking a meal with ingredients Al brought home from the Amish, and if she wasn’t preparing for an event at the Eagles or at church, she might be working on a handmade quilt or in her colorful flower gardens.
Dody enjoyed hosting family, often throughout the summer. She also enjoyed trips with her daughters to the casino and Bingo with friends at the VFW.
Anyone who knew Dody was touched by her love, kindness, and humor. She will be missed more than words can say.
Dody is survived by her husband, Alphonsus Doerr; their five daughters – Tamara Beck, Jill Hawley, Michelle (Rick) Tibbits, Denise (Tom) Warner, and Melissa Doerr; sister, Rose Anderson;13 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and 1 great great granddaughter. She is preceded in death by her parents, Murlene Burdick and Arlton Benfield; her sisters, Cecilia Benfield and Joy Swix; and her brother Richard Benfield.
