Delores Irene Gairns' Obituary
Vestaburg-Delores Irene (Hunkler) Gairns, age 82, of Mt. Morris and formerly of Vestaburg passed away at her home on April 16, 2019. Delores was born on July 26, 1936 in Detroit, the daughter of John and Mary (Tripp) Hunkler. She was raised in the Detroit area and moved to Flint at a young age. She earned her high school diploma through correspondence courses. On April 2, 1960 Delores married the love of her life, William Griffin Gairns in Evart. She loved her family more than life itself. She enjoyed playing euchre, bingo and socializing. Delores was an amazing homemaker and mother. Everyone wanted her to be their mother. After William's retirement they moved to Vestaburg.
Delores is survived by two sons, Gary (Amy) Gairns of Flint and William Gairns of Mt. Morris; 4 grandchildren, Anthony (Shelly) VanKuren, Brandon Gairns, Shane (Jenna) VanKuren, Chelsea (Zachary) Richard; 4 great grandchildren, Kaylee, Jemma, Mya, Brayden and 2 more on the way; and 3 special nephews, Dave, Doug and Denny.
She is preceded in death by her husband of more than 50 years, William Gairns; brother John Hunkler and 2 step siblings; and Jean (Orrie) Ferguson.
Services for Delores will be on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at the Brigham Chapel in Vestaburg at 2:00 PM. The family will greet friends beginning at 12:00 PM until time of service. Interment will follow at Richland Township Cemetery.
