Deloris J. Gondeck's Obituary
Big Rapids Deloris J. Gondeck, 86, of Grand Rapids, formerly of Big Rapids, passed away Thursday, February 26, 2009, at Spectrum Health Blodgett Hospital in Grand Rapids. She was born June 18, 1922, in Belding, the daughter of Albert and Nellie (Peck) Teachworth. In 1940, Deloris married Joseph Gondeck in Big Rapids, where the couple made their home. Throughout her working life, Deloris was employed at the former A & P, Giant, Eberhards, and Kroger Grocery Stores in Big Rapids. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Big Rapids. Deloris was also active in Girl Scouting for many years, and enjoyed keeping in touch with the girls who were in her troops. In 1995, her husband Joe preceded Deloris in death, and in 1999 she moved to Grand Rapids to be near her daughter. She continued her sewing hobby, and provided cloth tote bags for walkers for residents at Heartland Health Care in Grand Rapids, where she resided. Deloris also enjoyed baking and gardening. Deloris is survived by her loving children, Penny Haven of Belmont, Paul (Sue) Gondeck of Lake Isabella, and Sandy (David) Spathelf of Traverse City; 6 grandchildren, Elisabeth Paavo of Grandville, Scott Kibby of Grand Rapids, Jason (Pamela) Gondeck of Sacramento, CA, Brian (Kristi) Gondeck of Lansing, Deborah (Paul) Fields of Dallas, TX, and Bradley Spathelf of Milford; 4 great-grandchildren, Braxton Paavo, Courtney Kibby, Alexis and Morgan Spathelf; her sister Alegria Brown of Spring Lake; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 2, 2009, at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids, with Rev. Dean Prentiss officiating. Burial will be in the Highland View Cemetery. Memorial contributions for the Girl Scouts of Michigan Shore to Shore Mecosta County, or a charity of choice may bemailed to the local office of Girl Scouts at 210 Maple Street, Big Rapids, Michigan 49307 or left at the funeral home where Deloriss family will greet friends on Sunday, March 1, from 3-6 p.m., and prior to services on Monday.
