Deryl Ronald Hoyt Sr.'s Obituary
Cedar Lake-Deryl Ronald Hoyt Sr., age 85 passed away on Friday, July 30th, 2021. Deryl was born in Battle Creek, Michigan on December 31, 1935, the son of Joseph Ronald and Ellen Rose (Robertson) Hoyt. Except for one schoolyear in Cedar Lake, Deryl was raised in Battle Creek. Deryl graduated from Battle Creek Academy in 1952. He attended Emmanuel Missionary College (now Andrews University) for three years, where he met the love of his life. Ann (Valores Ann Liles). Deryl and Ann were married on August 26, 1956, in Birmingham, Alabama. After their marriage, they moved to Pinckney, Michigan where Ann taught in an 8-grade schoolhouse and Deryl finished his education. Deryl graduated from University of Michigan with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering in 1957. After graduation, Deryl went to work for Clark Equipment Company in Battle Creek, where he worked for the next 30 years. Upon being part of Clark Equipment's "Reduction in Force," Deryl repaired a number of wrecked cars. He also enjoyed chopping wood for others, helping his children with building, assembly, and "Mr. Fixit" projects, listening to Ann play the organ and piano, good food, and being with family.
Deryl is survived by his children, Cheryl (Jim) Roberts of Elkhart, Indiana, Cari (David) Haus of Cedar Lake, Carla (Ovid) McPherson of Monrovia, Indiana, Deryl Hoyt Jr. of Battle Creek, grandchildren, James (Nicole) Howard, Angela McPherson, Kara (Matt) Bolenbaugh, Michael (Andrea) Haus, Raquel (Peter) Jamieson-Lee, Laurel (Zane) Barnes, Matthew (Emily) Haus, and Tori Roberts, and sister-in-law Jane Liles King. Deryl's great-grandchildren include Olivia, Caralena, Silas, Elijah, Hadasa, Zebediah, Luke, and Haley-with three more on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Ronald, and Ellen Rose (Robertson) Hoyt, as well as two sisters, Mary Ellen (Hoyt) Kraner and Carol Joyce Hoyt, who died in infancy.
A memorial service will take place at a time to be announced at the Urbandale Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 20440 Bedford Road North, Battle Creek, Michigan, with interment following the service. Memorial gifts may be made in Deryl's honor to help fund student workers for one of his favorite charities, Daniel's Kitchen (P. O. Box 791, Edmore, Michigan 48829).
