Dolores Lillian Rice's Obituary
Lakeview-Dolores Lillian Rice, age 86, of Six Lakes, MI, passed away on September 1, 2019 at her home with family by her side. Dolores was born in Pontiac, MI on February 11, 1933 the daughter of Juan and Thelma (Walters) Ablin. She was raised in Pontiac and Goodrich and graduated from Pontiac High School. She married Wilbur "Bill" Rice on Feb. 11, 1955 in Angola, Indiana. Together, they raised 6 children and farmed, raising cattle and Belgium draft horses. It was common to see the horses and buggies over the years going down the road. Dolores was employed by John's Steak House in Goodrich for 8 years and later as a CNA for Kelsey Memorial in Lakeview for 11 years. She enjoyed going to the casino and casino trips, cooking, her farm, and her pets (dogs, and horses). Dolores donated to the humane society because of her passion for animals and provided animal food and supplies to shelters. She made out everybody's birthday cards for the rest of the year before she passed. Dolores was a fan of the Detroit Tigers and Lions and wore fan appropriate clothes. She was very photogenic and always smiling. She loved to make people laugh. Dolores adored her family, her kids, and grandkids. She loved sitting on her deck drinking coffee and watching hummingbirds with her "magnificent other" Gene Garlinghouse.
Dolores is survived in death by her children Bill (Terry) Rice of FL, Susan Rice of Atlas, Garry (Lorraine) Rice of Grand Blanc, Paul (Mary) Rice of Grandville, Nancy Rice of Goodrich, and David (Kathy) Rice of Swartz Creek; numerous grand and great-grandchildren; siblings Evelyn Bradford of Greenwood, IN, and Ronald (Sandy) Macadaey of White Lake; sister-in-law, Lila Ablin; her magnificent other, Gene Garlinghouse; and countless nieces and nephews.
Dolores was preceded in death by her husband Wilbur Rice; parents Juan and Thelma Ablin; and siblings Margarite (Fernando) Caducio, John (Cookie) Ablin, Ricky Ablin, and Arlene Ablin.
A celebration of Dolores' life will take place on Saturday, September 28th, 2019 from 1:00 - 4:00 P.M. at the VFW Post in Lakeview, MI with a luncheon to follow.
