Donald Blough Jr.'s Obituary
On October 21, 2022, Donald Blough Jr. passed away peacefully at home at the age of 80. Born on the 25th of May, 1942 to Donald and Ann (Gilmore) Blough in Lansing, a sense of community was ingrained in his spirit. He went on to honorably serve his country in the Air Force and was proud to be an active member of the American Legion and VFW. Don graduated from Ferris State College and made a living as a pharmacist.
At 26, he married his sweetheart, Mary Ellen Mayer, and together they became a loving Aunt and Uncle in their large family. Active community involvement was important to him and he practiced what he preached. Don was not only a member of the American Legion and VFW, he was also involved in Boy Scouts, Rotary Club, 40 + 8 club, Optimist club, Ham Radio Club, and a Ferris State Alumni. His vast circle of family and friends were never lost as he had a gifted ability to always remember people.
Don’s favorite activities began with family, spoiling the many nieces and nephews he had, and playing a good game of cards; you name the game, he was there. He also enjoyed traveling.
Left to carry on his memory are his devoted wife of 54 years, Mary Ellen; sister, Barb Corriveau; brother, Robert Blough; sisters-in-law, Dawn Mayer, Shirley (Rick) Denslow, Joanne (Phil) Lundie, Rose (Zane) Rice, Dorothy (Ron) Hart, Kathy Mayer, Agnes (Tom) Barker, Margaret Simon; brothers-in-law, Earl (Andi) Mayer, John (Julie) Mayer, Richard (Kathy) Mayer, Don (Linda) Mayer, Arnold (Joyce) Mayer, Mike (Edith) Mayer and Bob (Iris) Mayer and many nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; brothers-in-law, Mike Corriveau, Eugene Mayer, Martin Mayer, Herman Simon, John Granville, Willie Yanez, and Gerald Mayer; sisters-in-law, Barbara Yanez, Caroline Granville, and Alice Mayer.
He and his knowledge of medicine will be greatly missed.
A Memorial Mass will be held in Don’s honor Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Remus, at 11:00 am. A Rosary Service will be held at the church Wednesday morning at 9:30 am, followed by visitation from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
Those desiring may direct memorial contributions to Hospice of Michigan or to St. Michael Catholic Church.
