Donald E. Martin's Obituary
Donald Edward Martin, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away Sunday, October 24, 2021, at Spectrum Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. He was 80 years old. Per his wishes, cremation will take place with a memorial service to follow Friday, October 29th, at New Hope United Methodist Church in Mecosta, at 11:00 am. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service. Those desiring may direct memorial contributions to the church in lieu of flowers.
Don was born December 10, 1940, the son of Clifford and Zula Martin. He married the light of his life, Goldie Woods, on April 1, 1961, and together the two grew their family to include two children. Don worked at Ford Motor Company as a Systems Analyst for 34 years before his retirement in 1997. After he and Goldie visited friends in Canadian Lakes, MI, the two fell in love with the area, and quickly moved from Livonia to Canadian Lakes, where they spent the last 15 years. Don enjoyed golfing when he was able, and loved time spent with his family. A giving person, Don, along with his wife, Goldie, offered their time and talents on eight short-term mission trips. Don believed in being good and living a Christian life, and he did just that.
Don’s quiet and caring ways will be deeply missed by his wife of 60 years, Goldie Martin; children, Curtis Martin and Cara Guzik; half sister, Frances Fowler, and grandchildren, Kyle Guzik, Aryn Martin, Raegan Guzik, and Cooper Guzik.
He was preceded in death by his parents; half sister, Lillian Fowler, and his beloved dog, JJ.
