Donald F. Moore's Obituary
Donald F. Moore, age 90, of Baldwin passed away Sunday, January 20, 2013 at Spectrum Health Reed City Hospital. He was born December 21, 1922 in Big Rapids, the son of Arda and Frances (Thompson) Moore. Donald joined the U.S. Army in 1942, serving for four years as a 1st Lieutenant in the 309th Infantry Regiment in Germany during World War II. Upon returning from service, Donald went to work for Hanchett Manufacturing, where he retired after 42 years. He married Dorothy Burden on February 22, 1945. They had six children together. Donald loved working on his farm in Stanwood. He was a life member of VFW Post 5315 in Baldwin and a life member of the former American Legion Post 98 in Big Rapids. Donald is survived by his companion Ann Bedes; six children, Kathy (Tom) O'Neil of Stanwood, Dorothy (Jack) Heath of Advance, N.C., Jerry (Tim) Gebhardt of Oak Harbor, Wash., John (Beth) Moore of Alaska, Douglas (Rosalie) Moore of Morley, Angela (Ralph) Druckman of Everett, Wash.; 17 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law Gordon (Helen) Burden of Stanwood and Bernie Burden of Bremerton, Wash., two sisters-in-law Nada (Fred) Lovatt of Tenn. and Clare Belle Moore of Big Rapids, many nieces and nephews plus special great niece Betsy Ghent and special great great niece Allison Ghent. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dorothy, brothers Ernie, Art and Harry and sisters Ella Jensen and Anna Hibbard. Funeral Services for Donald will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 24, 2013 at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 - 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Stanwood Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to VFW Post 5315 of Baldwin.
