Donald K. Winget's Obituary
Big Rapids Donald K. Winget, 78, of Big Rapids, passed away Saturday, May 16, 2009, at Altercare of Big Rapids. He was born August 20, 1930, in Big Rapids, the son of Edgar and Minnie (Gerber) Winget, and graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1950. During the Korean Conflict, Don served with the U.S. Air Force, stationed in Guam. Following his discharge, he returned to Big Rapids, and on June 25, 1955, he married Janice M. Derevage. For many years, Don worked as a machinist at Hanchetts Manufacturing Company, retiring in 1995. Following retirement he worked for Big Rapids Greenhouse part-time for several years. He was a long-time active member of the Rogers Heights Church of Christ, serving as Church Treasurer for over 20 years, and also serving as a Deacon and an Elder. Don was also a member of the Big Rapids International Order of Oddfellows Lodge #111, where he held various offices. Don is survived by his wife Janice; their 4 children, Lisa (Alex Fate) Gregory of Big Rapids, Daniel Winget of Mecosta, Scott (Ellen) Winget of Big Rapids, and Kerri (Ron) Sarns of Morley; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Louis (Lola) Winget of South Lyon, and William (Gail) Winget of Pioneer, CA; several nieces and nephews, including his special niece Darcy Fox of Big Rapids; and 2 special friends from Altercare, Angie Jenison and Bonnie Goodwill. Don was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, Elaine Fox and Maxine Daso; an infant brother Robert, and a nephew Paul Daso. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 22, 2009, at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids, with Pastor Michael Steere officiating. Burial will be in the Highland View Cemetery. Memorial contributions for the Alzheimers Association may be left at the funeral home, where Dons family will greet friends after 10:00 a.m. on Friday.
