Donna J. Ellis' Obituary
Big Rapids Donna J. Ellis, 88, of Big Rapids, passed away Tuesday, November 18, 2008, at her residence. She was born September 20, 1920, in Evart, the daughter of Eroy and Etta (Rowe) Becker, and graduated from Evart High School in 1939. On December 15 of that same year, she married Richard C. Ellis of Big Rapids, and has lived here since. Donna formerly worked at Lintens Department Store and the Mecosta County Building. For many years, she worked for the City of Big Rapids in the treasurers office, retiring in 1983. Donna was married in the Third Avenue United Methodist Church, where she held the distinction of holding the longest active membership. Her husband preceded her in death in 1975. Surviving are 2 sons, Richard L. (Sue) Ellis of Kingman, KS, Gordon (Sandy) Ellis of Rodney; 1 daughter, Nancy (Gene) Whittemore of Cedar Springs; 6 grandchildren, Sherry Ellis, Mike Ellis, Brenda Alquest, Jeff Ellis, Greg Reimer, and Chad Reimer; 9 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Donna was also preceded in death by her close friend Norm Mason. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 22, 2008, at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids, with Pastor Mike Riegler officiating. Burial will be at the Highland View Cemetery. Memorial contributions for the Third Avenue United Methodist Church or Hospice of West Michigan may be left at the funeral home, where Donnas family will greet friends on Friday from 3-7 p.m., and prior to services on Saturday.
