Donna Jean Hitzert's Obituary
Reed City - Donna Jean Hitzert, 91, of Big Rapids, passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2018, at Reed City Fields Assisted Living. She was born February 17, 1926, in Big Rapids, the daughter of Hazen and Augusta (Vietzke) Diebel. Donna completed a secretarial curriculum at Ferris Institute, where she met her husband Russ, who was a pharmacy student. Following graduation Donna and Russ moved to Dallas, Texas for a number of years. They returned to Big Rapids around 1974. Russ worked at Rite Aid in Cadillac and Donna worked as receptionist/secretary for Grant Blakely Realty for several years. Donna always loved and collected antiques. Following retirement, she owned her own shop in Stanwood until age 84. Friends will remember her beautiful small home on the Muskegon river that looked like it was right out of Better Homes and Garden. Donna is survived by 2 nephews, Charles and Thomas Burton of Dallas, Texas; and her long time good friend Lynn Gross. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Russell. Donna expressed her sincere appreciation for the professional, loving care she received from the staff at the Reed City Fields Facility and Spectrum Health Hospice.
