Dorene Kay Woolworth's Obituary
Dorene was born to Doris Criss Sutherland and Frank Bradford Sutherland on August 8th, 1941 at Sparrow Hospital in East Lansing. She passed from this life on April 22, 2023. She is preceded in death by her parents (Doris and Frank), brothers Bradford and William "Bill", and her granddaughter Sonjia Renee McClure. Dorene is survived by several loving family members, including her husband: James Oliver Woolworth. Dorene met her husband (Jim) on a blind double date. Her friend had dragged her along to eat with the two young men at a diner, and as Jim has long joked, "He got stuck with her." The two became instant friends and married on September 10, 1960. She is survived by her brother Richard "Dick" (Jan) Sutherland and her sister-in-law Charlene Sutherland (Bill). She is also survived by her three sons: William (Barb), Bradley (Jan), and Randy (Cindy) who constantly kept her on her toes. Her wonderful grandchildren are: Cody Scot (Katreena), Connor John, Milan Eldred, Caden James, Meghan McKnight (Michael), Zachary Taylor (Amber), Molly Marino (Sam), and Crystal Christiansen (Joel). And, her perfect great-grandchildren are: Paityn, and Presley Woolworth, Kierslynn Kelley, Dylan Woolworth, Eisley and James McKnight, Canyon Woolworth, Aiden Douglas, and MacKenna and Heath Christiansen. Dorene graduated from Stanley Home Products School of Management in 1970. She was a department manager for Grants in Big Rapids during the 70's. She worked for the Lakeview School System as a teacher's aide and school bus driver for nearly twenty years. She graduated from Montcalm Community College in 2009 with her Associates Degree as an Educational Paraprofessional. Dorene spent her life as a leader at Brockway Wesleyan Church. Some of her hobbies included gardening, baking, painting, riding bikes and doing crafts with her grandchildren, searching for great deals at yard sales, and being one of the best mothers and grandmothers for which anyone could ask. Visitation will be held at Brigham's Funeral Chapel 9977 W Howard City-Edmore Rd, Lakeview, MI 48850 on Tuesday from 5pm to 8pm. Funeral will be held at Brockway Wesleyan Church 10951 3 Mile Rd Morley, MI 49336 on Wednesday at 2pm followed by a luncheon.
