Doris Louise Curtice's Obituary
Doris Curtice, 99, of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, with her daughter by her side. Doris Louise Petersen was born on March 2, 1927, in Edmore, to Chris and Myrtle (Ashbaugh) Petersen. Doris grew up in Edmore, graduating from Edmore High School, with the Class of 1945. She went on to Lansing College of Beauty, becoming a beautician. On October 5, 1946, Doris married her friend from childhood, John Charles Curtice, in Muskegon. The two built a beautiful life together. Doris raised their three children as a stay-at-home mom, while John’s career provided adventure and travel. She was a strong partner to John, supporting his love of aviation, which shaped much of their life. In 2002, they moved to Mount Pleasant, from Sun City Center, Florida. Doris also loved visiting friends and relatives, especially cherishing family gatherings at their lakefront cottages. She enjoyed cooking, antiquing, and trips to the casino. After John’s passing, she moved back to Florida, to live with her daughter. While there she loved bingo and had a special bond with her daughter’s dog, Orsen.
Doris is survived and missed by son, Chris (Ruth) Curtice; daughter, Alana (James Kidder) Curtice; daughter-in-law, Vicki Curtice; grandsons, John Curtice, Michael Curtice, and Matthew Curtice; and five great-grandchildren, Grant, Tyler, Kento, Emma, and Yuto Curtice. She is also survived by beloved friends and sisters-in-law Darlene Petersen and Lola Curtice, brothers-in-law Charles Curtice and Don Curtice, along with several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, beloved husband John, son Greg Curtice, grandson Mark Curtice, sister Donna Bucholtz, and brothers Bud and Buzzy Petersen.
A funeral service for Doris will be held on Thursday, April 2, 2026, in Edmore at the Janowicz Family Funeral Home with Pastor Gale Nesbitt officiating.
