Doris Jean Nielsen's Obituary
Lakeview-Doris Jean Nielsen, age 86, of Lakeview passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 11, 2024. She was born in Six Lakes on October 1, 1937, the daughter of Francis and Alice (Thompson) Keeney. Doris was raised in Six Lakes until the family moved to Lakeview where she attended school, graduating with the Class of 1955. She married Maurice "Morey" Nielsen on July 24, 1955, at the Asbury Methodist Church in Lakeview. Doris was a busy wife and mother, who enjoyed participating in her children's activities, gardening (both flowers and vegetables), canning, cooking and baking. She made the Best apple pie. Throughout the years she was employed by the Dime Store in Lakeview, operated a day care from her home, and later by Hi-Q manufacturing until her retirement. Her membership at New Life United Methodist Church, where she led the "Widows Group" in recent years, was a very important part of her life. Doris was affectionately known as "The Bear Lady" because of the displays she created for every season and holiday with the bear in her front yard. Doris will be remembered as a very kind and giving woman who was always smiling, and truly the glue that held her family together. She will be missed by our entire community. Doris is survived by her children, Allen Nielsen of Chicago, IL, Randy Nielsen of Six Lakes, Alice (Don) Straughen of Kalkaska, Bruce Nielsen of Crowley, TX; 6 grandchildren, Michael, Heather, Jarad, Alicia, Nicole, Emily; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters, Joanne Forgar, Carolyn Jorissen, Nancy Paris, Jeanine Keeney; nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Morey in 2002; grandson, Chaunci Sanders; daughter-in-law, Jane Nielsen; son-in-law, Kevin Reber; and her parents, Francis and Alice. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at New Life United Methodist Church in Six Lakes with Pastor Mark Mitchell officiating. The family will greet friends for visitation from 4:00-7:00 PM on Tuesday, July 16, at Brigham Funeral Chapel in Lakeview and again on Wednesday at 10:00 AM until time of service at the church.
